Hidden HTML Form Fields

Sometimes it is useful to be able to pass information between pages which is not visible to our visitors. This might include things such as variables to tell the processing page where the information has come from, and therefore how it should deal with it. To meet this need we can use the HTML hidden input.

Hidden input fields by their very nature cannot be seen by the user, so we cannot ask them to put any information into them, so we have to give them a value ourselves. The format for a hidden input is very similar to the other forms of HTML input:

<input type="hidden" name="hiddenfield" value="hiddenvalue" />

I won't delve any more into the uses of hidden input fields, since their main use comes on the processing page after an HTML form, which is beyond the scope of this website, but it is good to know that they exist, and how you can use them.
